The title should say "VW Gold goes faulty via old firmware....."
VW cars are still very reliable and I would still recommend them, but all hardware is prone to the occasional breakdown and.or sutter in operation....
Wow, I never thought it would happen but it did, my VW has an error or two......the EPC light (which is for engine managment) is illuminated also the emissions control light is also lit......two errors in one day.
The EPC light was on permantely when I left my home at 06:35 this morning, I thought nothing of the error as and proceeded to drive precisely 9.5 miles to work or to the gym car park (which is where I leave my car) the car was parked here for the day then after I had a workout at the gym I started the engine and the emission control light came on and stayed on.....
The EPC Light means that the brain of the engine has experienced some issues, this can be temporary or in my case permanent and you need your dealer to look at the error using Vag-Com....
The Emissions Light scared the shit out of me as it looks more like an engine, I was like "is the engine missing?" but no this means the car has detected errors with the exhaust gases, however in my case this will hopefully be firmware for the EPC/ECM unit(s).....hopefully...
Using my state of the art Windows Mobile phone I called the RAC and outlined the issue to them, upon ending the call the RAC arrived precisely 15 minutes thereafter.
My car was hooked up to a laptop and they used an RAC spinoff of Vag-Com to establish that my EPC controller was defective this is basically the device that control my engine management, I was advised that the software was probably defective not the hardware and that I should take my car to a VW dealer asap.....like Saturday morning where they can fix it!
So it looks like my car might have a firmware update or two which is really weird as you do not associate firmware updates with cars......ooohhh.....if you turn the car off during the update will it bugger your car is is their a backup EPC????
VM also only work till 11am on Saturday therefore I might have to hire a car from Enterprise as no courtesy cars are avaliable, if so it better be a VW, I refuse to drive round in a french car as they are shite.....
